Sophie Roy is a visual artist living and working in Montreal, Canada. She has taken part in multiple solo and group exhibitions throughout the region. Her artistic practice focuses on alternative photographic techniques such as digital manipulation and mixed media processes involving image transfer and painting. Through her artwork, the artist explores themes of living beings, nature and todayʼs society. Sophie Roy seeks to create poetic and symbolic atworks in order to stir emotions and reflection in the viewer. To do this, she overlays, juxtaposes and digitally manipulates various photos of landscapes, urban places, people and animals. She sometimes combines recent and archival photos, highlighting the past and the present while opening up new temporal perspectives. Unlike a photographic snapshot which captures and freezes a precise moment in time, photomontage allows her to express a dynamic vision of life, made up of changes, movements and transformations.
